Back2Basics Tutoring is a small tutoring business operated in one of Darwin's rural areas, Palmerston/ Humpty Doo.  We offer well-structured, individualised programs in Maths (Numeracy) and English (Literacy) for Primary and Middle School students.

Back 2 Basics Tutoring aims to create a structured and safe haven in which children can relax into learning without anxiety. My unique programs are individualised to the child. This allows me to meet them where they are at academically. By working through my programs in a consistent, systematic and structured way they will build understanding, skills and confidence. There is no time frame given for the mastering of skills. The child will learn at their own pace, and will be able to monitor and recognise their own progress as they consistently achieve success.

The Learning Journey

Children will understand that learning is part of their own natural progression in life. We never stop learning and learning can be embraced as an enjoyable experience. Another key focus during tutoring sessions is fostering a growth mindset, as opposed to a fixed mindset. A growth mindset means that children will focus on their improvements and learn from mistakes. Children are encouraged to try new things, ask for help and do their best. A fixed mindset on the other hand is where children feel ashamed about asking for help, don’t like challenges, compare themselves to others and believe their abilities are fixed.

My intention, through tutoring, is to eliminate anxiety and fear of learning and to create confident, independent learners who trust their own ability. My students will be able to function as independent learners in the classroom, feel confident of their ability to function in everyday life and flourish as they gain momentum and self-esteem.
